Auro x Yardstick’s pairing class is a bew-tiful afternoon of chocolate and coffee.
Since we can’t be together in the same space, finding new ways to communicate with our friends and customers is important to us. Online events, such as our Auro x Yardstick pairing class have become one of the ways we can connect, interact, and share our passions.
Our Auro x Yardstick pairing classes began on a rainy and lazy afternoon — a perfect day to sit back and talk about coffee and chocolate while eating chocolate and drinking coffee.
A chocolate and coffee kit from Auro and Yardstick arrives the day before the event, a list of what is in the box is included in the sign up page.
Auro Chocolate x Yardstick Coffee: Craft Chocolate & Coffee Pairing Kit
All that you find in the kit are used by our hosts Auro co-founder Kelly Go and Yardstick Coffee co-founder Andre Chanco to help give participants tactile and aromatic examples of what they’re talking about. An Auro & Yardstick: Chocolate & Coffee Tasting Sheet completes the box, to make sure you always remember what you’ve learned.
During the class, we talked about the history, unique origins, and surprising relationship of craft chocolate and third-wave coffee. It was interesting to see all the similarities between coffee and cacao — whether it’s bean to bar or bean to brew, there was always an interesting tidbit that tied them together.
It may be intimidating to share what flavor notes you are tasting and smelling to complete strangers over Zoom, but we always stress the importance of trusting our instincts. Participants are encouraged to ask questions and give comments on taste, scent, texture, and even the lecture itself. As our co-founder Kelly Go said during the first class, “This is a safe space to ask questions or give comments. All questions are welcome!”
Kelly’s reassuring words must have worked because the chat section was active throughout the event, with people sharing unusual tasting notes they’re experiencing or simply to say they can’t stop eating the chocolate bar or getting hopped up on a good mug of coffee.
We went into major overtime but no one seemed to notice, or if someone did, they didn’t seem to mind. The class is so immersive and interactive that even if we weren’t sharing the same space, we were all learning and experiencing the same effects… including getting hopped up on some excellent chocolate and coffee throughout the event.
Creating this event was so much fun and really special since we got to collaborate with one of our favorite coffee shops. Our last class, hosted by our co-founder Kelly Go and Yardstick Coffee co-founder Andre Chanco, will be on October 2, Saturday from 3:00 PM to 4:30 PM.
Those who are interested still have time to sign up here
Can’t make it on October 2? Not to worry, the Auro and Yardstick teams are open to private bookings for a minimum of 15 participants. Just send us an email or DM!
